Bio for Mark A. Dixon

Sharing the Glory of God Through Wonder, Discovery, and Development.

A southwest Missouri native and lifelong resident, Mark A. Dixon has lived and worked in Springfield, Missouri since 1978. He earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology and religious studies at Missouri State University. Mark is an ordained minister, trustee, and the teaching pastor at Deliverance Temple Ministries, in Springfield. He is also the President and Executive Director of the Bartley-Decatur Neighborhood Center, Inc. With the help of many others, he helped found the Center in 2003, reclaiming and rehabilitating a building that had been in service to the African American community for nearly 100 years.

For more than 35 years Mark has been an advocate and catalyst for justice and positive change in Springfield. A number of those years were spent working with the Caring Communities initiative at the Community Partnership of the Ozarks, where he functioned as a Site Coordinator, Community Development Specialist, and planning & implementation consultant. He is a strong proponent of Asset Based Community Development, meaning that he highly values the ability of people to solve their own challenges and determine their own futures if they are given the corresponding support they need to do so.

Mark is the principle at Teaching Priest Media, through which his passion for teaching the Word of God is demonstrated. He is unswerving in his commitment to help guide people into the Wonder of God, an awe-filled relationship where Discovery and Development are the new normal.

He serves, and has served, on a number of civic, community, and regional boards and committees over the years including:

  • African American Agenda Collaborative, Inc.
  • Southwest Missouri Council of Governments
  • Member and past 1st Vice President, Springfield Branch NAACP
  • Ministers’ Coalition of Springfield, Inc.
  • The Good Community Committee
  • The Southwest Missouri Minority Health Alliance
  • African American Student Achievement Task Force (for Springfield Public Schools)
  • Building Facilities Task Force (for Springfield Public Schools)
  • Springfield Public Schools Community Equity & Diversity Advisory Council
  • Unite. of Southwest Missouri (Co-founder & Contributing Writer)
  • Urban Neighborhoods Alliance, and many others
Mark is married to Nina Smart-Dixon, the owner of Recovery Outreach Services, LLC, an outpatient substance abuse treatment center, where he is the Data & Contracts Manager. They have three children, Cory, Alyce, and Kyran; along with six adorable grandchildren (to whom Mark is best known as “Paw Paw”).

God has given me the gift of writing. Yet, it is hard for me to find the words that give justice to the Teaching Priest Mark Dixon. My heart is overwhelmed by the seeds he has planted and watered in me! I can testify that he is a mighty man of God that is doing tremendous work for the Kingdom. He transcends generations and has an unparalleled reach that allows him to relate to many. His aptitude is amplified by the power of the Holy Spirit, making him extraordinarily heavenly-minded while very much earthly good! I am honored to witness the impact he is making now, glorifying God and pointing people to Jesus! I look forward to all that God will continue to do through him. He is changing the world!

I find pure joy being connected with Kingdom Minded People! Teaching Priest aka Mark Dixon is one of those people. I’ve been blessed with his Love, Leadership, Laughter, and Lordship knowledge that is bar none.

Teaching Priest invaded my reality that “Prayer…That Actually Makes A Difference” is not about begging, complaining, or about being self-centered! My mainline communication of prayer has DAP (Dunamis Authoritative Power) appeal and I am forever grateful for Teaching Priest’ eloquent shares to teach God’s people! I’m so glad I can call him Big Brotha!
